South Florida has one of the largest immigrant populations in the country

Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are home to over 1.5 million foreign-born residents — the largest concentration of Cubans, Venezuelans, Haitians, and Colombians in the US. When someone in that community needs an immigration attorney, they're increasingly starting the search with AI.

We tested what happens when a prospective client types "immigration attorney near me" or "asylum lawyer South Florida" into ChatGPT. Out of 18 immigration firms we evaluated, 15 were never mentioned — even when the firm was a Google Ads advertiser paying $13–$38 per click for those same searches.

The math: A client facing deportation is worth $5,000–$20,000 in legal fees. An asylum case: $3,000–$10,000. A green card application: $1,500–$5,000. If AI sends that client to a competitor who "showed up," you paid for the ad click they never made — and they got the case.

What Google Ads keywords cost immigration attorneys right now

These are current market rates for immigration law keywords — what your competitors are paying every time someone clicks their ad instead of asking AI:

Immigration lawyer near me
$13.22
27,100 monthly searches
Asylum lawyer near me
$20.89
590 monthly searches
Visa attorney near me
$18.09
480 monthly searches
Deportation lawyer near me
$20.09
335 monthly searches

Every one of those clicks represents someone who already knows they need legal help — high-intent, high-urgency, high-value. But when they skip the ads and ask ChatGPT instead, the click never happens. The question becomes: does AI know your firm exists?

What we found when we tested South Florida immigration firms

We queried ChatGPT and Google AI with location-specific prompts — the same kind a prospective client in Miami or Fort Lauderdale would use. The results were stark.

✗
15 out of 18 firms were invisible — never mentioned by name, not referenced by specialty, not linked to any resource. These included firms actively running Google Ads on the same keywords.
✓
3 firms appeared consistently — they shared specific traits: structured content about their specialties (asylum, deportation, DACA), Spanish-language pages with bilingual authority signals, and mentions across multiple authoritative legal directories.
✗
Spanish-language searchers were especially underserved — when we tested in Spanish ("abogado de inmigración cerca de mí"), almost every local firm disappeared entirely. The recommendations went to national legal aggregators instead.

Why immigration firms are especially exposed to AI invisibility

Immigration law has a unique challenge: the clients are often non-English speakers who trust AI recommendations more heavily — they may not have the network to get word-of-mouth referrals, and they don't know which firms are reputable. AI becomes the trusted advisor.

If your practice serves Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese speakers, AI needs to know that — explicitly, not inferred. The firms that showed up in our tests had content that specifically addressed their multilingual capabilities and the specific immigration pathways their clients needed (TPS, DACA, U-visas, asylum).

The pattern we keep seeing: Firms pay $13–$38/click to Google but invest almost nothing in the signals that make AI recommend them. One client who finds you through AI instead of a paid click is worth the equivalent of 400–1,500 ad clicks. The ROI math is overwhelming — but only if AI can find you first.
