In South Florida, air conditioning isn't optional. When a system fails at 3 PM in August with 95-degree heat and 90% humidity, the homeowner isn't browsing — they're in emergency mode. And increasingly, that emergency starts with ChatGPT: "Who's the best AC repair company near Boca Raton?" or "HVAC companies in Palm Beach County with same-day service."

That query doesn't see your Google Ad. It goes to an AI that makes a recommendation based on organic signals you may or may not have built — and gives the call to someone who did the work you didn't.

"Best AC repair company in Boynton Beach for emergency same-day service" — typed into ChatGPT right now by someone whose unit just failed. Which company gets that call? Based on our testing, probably not the one with the biggest ad budget.

We tested 20 HVAC and AC repair companies across Palm Beach and Broward counties on ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI Overview. The results were consistent with every other market we've analyzed.

What AC Repair Clicks Actually Cost

These are current average costs per click for HVAC and AC repair searches in South Florida, based on live Google Ads data:

Search TermAvg. Monthly VolumeCost Per Click
ac repair near me214,000$57.98
air conditioning service near me40,500$59.47
hvac service near me40,500$57.66
service ac near me40,500$63.86
hvac companies near me110,000$46.91

"AC repair near me" alone pulls over 214,000 searches per month nationwide — and at nearly $58 per click, it's one of the most expensive local service categories in Google Ads. A company running ads at reasonable volume on this keyword can spend $5,000–$15,000 a month just on clicks. When even a fraction of those searches shift to AI-first queries, every invisible company loses calls they effectively already paid to attract.

Florida Is Different: AC Season Never Ends

In most of the country, HVAC is a seasonal business. In South Florida, it isn't. Temperatures stay above 80°F for ten months of the year. Humidity makes it feel worse. That means emergency AC calls come year-round, system replacements happen in every season, and the search volume for "AC repair near me" stays high every single month.

This also means the opportunity cost of AI invisibility compounds differently here than in northern markets. A Chicago HVAC company loses AI traffic for six months. A Boca Raton company loses it every day.

What We Found Testing 20 South Florida HVAC Companies

We queried ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI Overview for AC repair and HVAC service recommendations across Palm Beach and Broward counties. We tested each of the 20 companies against their primary service area and call type.

The pattern in HVAC matched every other vertical we've tested: AI recommendations track organic authority almost exclusively. A large company spending $10,000 a month on Google Ads appeared exactly as invisible as a two-truck operation that spent nothing.

Why One Invisible Job Is a Significant Loss

AC repair calls run $150–$600 for diagnostics and minor repairs. A capacitor replacement or refrigerant recharge sits at the lower end. Compressor failures, coil replacements, and major electrical repairs push toward $1,000–$2,500. But the real number is system replacement: a new AC unit plus installation in South Florida runs $4,000–$15,000 depending on system size, efficiency rating, and whether ductwork needs updating. Many South Florida homes have two or three zones.

A company that captures one additional replacement job per week because it appears in AI recommendations adds $200,000–$750,000 in annual revenue from a channel that currently costs nothing.

What the Companies That Appeared Had in Common

City-specific service pages

The visible companies had dedicated pages for each city they served — not one "service area" page listing fifteen cities. AI recommendations are location-specific, and broad service areas dilute the signal.

Review volume and recency

Every company that appeared in AI results had active review acquisition — dozens of reviews in the past 90 days. Aggregate ratings above 4.7 with recent activity consistently outranked higher-volume competitors with older reviews.

Service-specific content depth

Visible companies had separate pages for AC repair, installation, maintenance plans, and emergency service — not a single "Services" page. AI models match intent at the service level, not the company level.

Local citations and directory consistency

Every visible HVAC company had consistent NAP (name, address, phone) data across the major directories — Google Business Profile, Yelp, Angi, HomeAdvisor, and HVAC-specific directories. Inconsistent citations suppressed AI recommendations even for companies with strong ad spend.

The First Movers Win Disproportionately

HVAC has an advantage that most other service categories don't: customers tend to return. A company that handles a repair today builds the relationship for a replacement job in two to five years. A company that appears in AI recommendations for emergency calls is also the first name customers remember when the system fails again — or when they refer a neighbor.

Right now, 80% of HVAC companies in South Florida are invisible on AI. The ones that build real organic authority in the next six months will own that channel before competitors catch up — and hold it because AI recommendations, once established, are slow to displace.
